March Madness

I am sure this will be a common thread to my monthly blog – I really can’t believe how quickly the time comes around each month to share with you all that I have been doing!

I am writing this on such a poignant day ‘International Women’s Day’ and this year the theme is #pledgeforparity. I am very proud to be a member of our organisation that continuously strives to give girls and young women around the globe a voice and was stunned to learn that The World Economic Forum predicts that it will take until 2033 to entirely close the gender parity gap! Each of us is a role model and leader within our units, district and divisions and by empowering the girls and women in our care we can each, in our small way, aid this process.

On the subject of inspiring women, I was delighted to attend on Thinking Day, a lunch hosted by Girlguiding Glasgow’s President, Maureen Reid for our Vice Presidents. It was lovely to meet such a passionate group of women who have dedicated their lives to the development and care of our County. I spent time chatting and learning about what has happened through the decades and learning as much as I could from the women who have built such strong Guiding foundations for Girlguiding in Glasgow and are so supportive of the County going forward.

I have been to quite a few meetings over the last month and it is fair to say some have more exciting agendas than others. One of my highlights this month was our Senior Section Spectacular planning group which has the job of planning the Centenary celebration events. There are lots of exciting events taking place in Girlguiding Glasgow’s programme and also at a Scottish and UK level. A specific newsletter dedicated to our calendar of events is being sent to all members 26 years and under as, regardless of whether you actively attend a Senior Section unit, you are automatically a member – so join in the celebration!! Learn more here!

I also left the last Rah Rah Rio meeting very excited as the planning group have been busy working away on the event programme for all Girlguiding Glasgow’s Rainbows and Brownies with activities such as come and try Olympic sports of gymnastics and tennis, inflatables and carnival games. I do hope to meet lots of our youngest members at this event. If you are going, let your Division Commissioner know so that transport can be coordinated centrally for your Division. I am eagerly waiting to attend the next Rocking Rio meeting to get an overview of the fabulous work the team has been doing. Rumour has it that we will be basking in the Achachairdeis sun in hot tubs, burning all our energy on the inflatable assault course and bubble football, dancing the night away at the neon silent disco before getting down to the salsa beats of carnival time! I think the team know I get too excited about camp so have kept the programme under tight wraps but I am sure they will share some of the weekend activities with you! Click here! Due to Leader request, booking period has been extended to 14th March & the invitation is open to all section leaders, so come along and enjoy the fun!
