Welcome Madame President

Girlguiding Glasgow today has a new President as Morag Liddell takes over the reins from Maureen Reid.

Maureen has done a great job over the past 5 years and we thank her for her time and efforts support the county.

Introducing Morag

Morag - County President

Morag has been involved in guiding for many years having joined us as a Brownie in Cathcart. Since then she’s been a Guide and a Ranger before becoming a leader with both Guides and Rangers.

Outside of unit guiding, Morag has been heavily involved at both county and region level holding roles including assistant county commissioner (twice!), a member of the Scottish Executive, and Chair of the Scottish Business Management & Finance Committee.

Currently, she is an assistant leader in the Sense Unit in SW Division, working with a great team of leaders and we have a really strong relationship with the staff and volunteers at Sense Scotland. This work is particularly rewarding and supports our Inclusion Policy that Guiding is for all girls.

On top of all this, Morag is a member of the Trefoil Guild, a member of the UK Trefoil Guild Finance & General Purpose Committee and a member of the Olave Baden-Powell Society which is the fundraising part of WAGGGS.

With such a wealth of experience, we’re very lucky to have such an experienced #wowwoman join the team.

What does a President do?

As a non-executive member of the county team, the presidents role mainly involves supporting the County Commissioner. A good relationship which involves honest feedback is important – gracious and generous praise is vital, as are conversations about areas of improvement.

Chairing the Annual review is a key role for the President but just as important is getting out and about supporting events and meeting this amazing network of volunteers we have in our organisation.
