The 2nd weekend of May saw over 100 Guides plus leaders go on safari at Blair Drummond Safari Park.
The guides had a lot on their itinerary; a tour of the park, helping out the keepers and exploring the animal enclosures. Plus the fun didn’t end when the park closed! The outdoor team ran a wide game and a campfire with plenty of songs to learn. The girls were ready for bed when the time came! Sunday dawned nice & sunny so after breakfast a few more hours to explore the park before heading home to recover.
The 259th Glasgow Guides had a very special time as 2 girls made their Promise whilst the lemurs were out for their morning sun bathe!
Chloe & Sky (10) said “This was a great weekend! We helped the keepers get the animals their breakfast & prepare their enclosure for the day; it was hard work! It rained a lot but that didn’t stop us, we had our coats to keep us dry. We saw the sea-lion show, visited the elephants and played on the dodgems (lots of times!).”
Freya (12) told us “I liked seeing the animals but I also liked the evening activities, I even got to lead a song at the campfire! We were so tired, we forgot to eat our s’mores so our leaders had to eat them instead.”
Rachael, Leader with 259th Guides added “The event was really well organised, the girls were never bored and had enough spare time to explore whatever they wanted. Pity about the weather but they had a great time. The Sunday morning was sunny so we took the opportunity for Chloe & Skye to make their promise with the Lemurs (as our unit sponsor them). We’d definitely do it again if the change arises!”
