Jill’s Blog October 2016

It seems very poignant that I am sitting writing my next blog entry on the International Day of the Girl. Girlguiding firmly believes in empowering our members, ensuring they have a voice and are given the opportunity to reach their full potential, but for so many around the globe this is just not the case. As members of WAGGGS, we are an army of 10million members advocating to increase the rights of those that are less fortunate than ourselves. Whilst we are a collective force, the support today has increased tenfold on social media as folk take a moment out of their day to show their support for #TeamGirl. Each and every volunteer with Girlguiding Glasgow ensures girls and young women within the city have access to Girlguiding and the amazing opportunities being part of a worldwide organisation provides. Don’t forget to check out the WAGGGS website for the Team Girl Activity pack to share with your unit. (

Congratulations are in order for three of our youth members as they have just learned of the international adventures which await them next year as part of Girlguiding Scotland INTOPS. Bronwyn from 46th Guide Unit is heading to IGGNITE2017 in Ireland, Claire is heading to NICES 2017 in the Netherlands and Oliva is jetting off to Spejdernes Lejr 2017 in Denmark both Claire and Oliva are from 123rd Guide Unit. International travel with Girlguiding is an incredible experience and I am sure the trips will be adventures which will give these young women endless opportunities and a host of special memories.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the November issue of the Guiding magazine as it should contain exciting news about the programme review for each of the Guiding sections.

Thank you for all you continue to do for Girlguiding Glasgow,

Jill |
